DarkShadow Description …

Assumption is a flaw we all have. There are times it serves us well, but taking for granted you know what is happening to you can sometimes cause you to be wrong, all because you make an assumption.

KC is suffering from headaches; some would say they might have been severe migraines. She sees things that aren’t there, hears voices, and in general, she thinks, or is it assumes, she might be going crazy. When she seeks help for her affliction, KC comes to understand assumptions can be dark and dangerous and can cast shadows on her life.

Return to the magical Land of Eldershire with Mr Scruffy, Iolair, and Gavin as they join with KC in a quest to rid Eldershire of a chilling and most despicable creature ever to walk amongst them—Nukpana Fraener.

Life is full of dark shadows. Some linger, others come when least expected. With a sense of purpose, one can overcome the dark shadows that threaten to take you away.

An unknown voice

New Characters & Old Ones Too

In book two DarkShadow, KC rejoins with old friends and develops new friendships! New characters that members of the VIP SQUAD mentioned they liked are the Lemmketeers and Vivette Chouette. These and others may be found on the Characters of Eldershire page (Caution: May contain spoilers).

The Lemmketeers

The Lemmketeers is a group of four brother lemmings.

A Lemming (small rodent) can change size at will and are dressed in an official Eldershire uniform (think Three Musketeers). Their main adornment includes an ankh and a silver sword along with a draped tabard emblazoned with the Tree of Life accented with each of their individual life colors.

The four Lemmketeers are

  • Lafayette, full name is Sir Lafayette de Marquis, embraces the color of love—royal blue accented with gold
  • Crab, full name is Sir Gareth de Claytor, embraces the color of anger—red accented with black
  • Logan, full name is Sir Logan Ó Ayrshire De Auchinleck, embraces the color of mystery—magenta accented with green
  • Tonner, full name is Sir Frederick O’ Tomhrair, the descendant of Tomer, embraces the color of energy—orange accented with yellow

Vivette Chouette

Likewise, Vivette Chouette, an owl and an old friend of another character you meet in DarkShadow, becomes a friend and companion to Mr Scruffy. After that, who knows, you may see more of Vivette in future stories. Stay tuned.

Write for Love – It is not always possible

Why do I write?

My brain is a miraculous thing. There are times I marvel at my thoughts. That’s why I write!

Today, I didn’t get to write like I wanted to do, but I did do some busy prep to help my websites stay approved and accessible.

Because of the time involved, I didn’t get to put down those thoughts that woke me at 5 a.m. this morning. But then, whoever has the chance to write their words without interruptions, they are very lucky souls.

Goals

Next week, I had a goal. It was to send out book two – DarkShadow – a work in progress – to my editor. Sadly, I haven’t gotten the last act written. Though, I know what I want to do, say, have happen, and explore.

The first fifteen pages are crafted, edited, and sent off to my writing leader for the writing retreat I am going on next week. My editor, well, she will get Acts One and Two when I go on the road. Act Three will not be finished as planned. So goes the writing life!

Writer’s Retreat

Where am I going? — Nimrod Hall. It is like the emblem of ancientness of Virginia. I am so excited and freaking scared.

How will I do? Will I fit in with the other writing gurus I will be connected with in real time? What can I offer that is important? I mean, after all, most of them are probably good writers. Me, not so much. Not even close. I’m a wanna-be writer that took it on the cuff to try to learn an elusive craft.

Oh, I’ve been traditionally published — academic publication as well as a book that was billed as a supplemental reader. The challenges I faced during the writing and publication of the supplemental reader were unbelievable. It was put on me, and my co-author friend, to market our book. We did a tremendous amount of editing and design work. That wasn’t really all bad until you realized how much of the royalties would go to the publishing company.

Self-Publishing

Having felt that pain, I realized that self-publishing was the way to go for the time on task. Why should I give 90% of my royalties to a publishing company when they didn’t even do the marketing, let alone, the editing, the design, the whatever.

So, I bit the bullet and wrote my stories my way. And, I feel good about what I’ve written. Oh, I used editors, beta readers, and I modified my stories according to feedback. Are they literary award winners? Absolutely not. I didn’t write for that goal. I wrote to tell a story. Did I succeed? I hope so, but only my readers will tell me. Some have, some haven’t.

Now, I’m writing my second series, and I find that I am just as weak-kneed as when I started my first book. I’m scared. I’m alone. And, I hope that my writing reaches someone. That is the goal. That I touch someone’s soul in that special way. That he or she will want to read more of my writings.

Will I succeed? I pray so. I’ll only know when the reader lets me know. Those moments are rare, but I cherish each one!

Motto – Write!

Write on! That is the motto! Live strong and prosper is the reward!

Thanks for reading. If you like this post and want to support it, forward it to someone who’d like it or, even better, buy them a book!

5 Reasons for the Season!

1. Being able to live the dream…

This holiday season I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how lucky I am, how many blessings I’ve received, and how I am able to live my life long dream of writing stories that touch others.

In doing this deep thinking, I decided that sharing my five reasons I love this season, I’d share a little of myself with you, my readers. You make it possible for me to live my dream. For that, I start in counting my many blessings!

Thank you for supporting me and in helping me live my dream!

2. Family & Friends…

If you flip through the archives of this website, you’ll find several pictures of friends. This picture meant a lot to me when I was doing a book signing at Farmer’s Daughter in Wytheville (apologies for the fuzzy image).

The pic below is of a Reading Fan, Glo, who has since become a very dear friend and she enjoys helping me by being a member of my VIP SQUAD too! A Win-Win for us BOTH!

3. Good Food & Great Times…

If you enjoy food, then you might also like what I do — browsing magazines and cookbooks and looking at pictures of good food! It is great fun to make plans and to get ideas to fix good food for great times of fellowship. I must admit, I love food. Always have. “Comfort food” is important in my life.

Orange Cranberry Biscotti is a food favorite.
It’s time for some hot green tea with homemade Orange Cranberry Biscotti

As for Great Times, all you have to do is connect with me. I enjoy reaching out to my family, friends, and my reading fans through notes, letters, and at this time of the year, holiday cards. I’ve spent the last three weeks working on mailing Christmas Cards to those whose addresses I’ve collected over the years. I’m proud to say I’m getting ready to complete those and get the last of them in the mail on Friday (December 21). Yay! I’m so happy I managed to get them done before Christmas! That does not always happen (Giggle, Snicker).

4. The Love of listening to Music & Old Time Radio Classics, Reading, & watching TV Series I’ve missed…

This reason for the season is a little long, but I do love all those things and more. You that follow me know I am eclectic with my hobbies — I love working on so many things, so much so that Albert finds himself wondering what I’ll do next (large laugh). I’ll let you in on a secret. Now that he has retired, he never seems to know what I’m doing (belly laugh).

I’ve shared in the past the music I love to listen to while writing, cooking, or just working around Hobbit’s Bend. On my welcome page (about midway down) is a link to the songs I listened to while I wrote The Marine Letsco Trilogy. If you haven’t check the songs out, please do. And let me know what you like to listen to!

I’m working on Book 2 – DarkShadow of the The Chronicles of Eldershire, and I’m collecting songs that I enjoy hearing while I’m in my writing zone.

5. The Chance to SHARE my JOY with YOU!

Cover of Book 1 - The Fire Within
Available in print, eBook, or audio formats on Amazon

Caution: There are unscrupulous souls on the web. As such, I’ve found an original image of the first cover of this book being sold on Amazon for over $25 dollars and it says that the book was published in 1789. Seriously. Please be aware, there be crooks amongst us.

NOTE: The eBook is ALWAYS free when you use Kindle Unlimited. BUT, for three days, you can download the eBook version without cost. When you click on the download on Sunday through Tuesday, you will go to an order form, but the price will be $0.00 and no deliver charge!

This is a great GIFT to give to a family member, friend, or other reading pal that may not have heard of my writing. Feel free to share with your family and friends!

Well, that’s it! My five reasons (oh, you do know I have more) for the season. It is hoped you enjoyed reading. Thanks for reading! If you like this blog post and want to support it, forward it to a friend, join Pam’s Newsletter, or become a VIP SQUAD member, or best of all, buy a book!

A Quick Post — Storm’s Brewing — Oh, My!

Hello Reading Fans…

Mr Scruffy and Pam here to say we are trying to get back into the swing of writing, posting, and being caught up with life.

Owl - Mr. Scruffy Icon - Rainbows“Taking two weeks off for vacay proved to put Pam further behind than she thought she’d be. I tried to warn her. But, Nooooo. She didn’t listen to me. Her trusty Owl.”

Image of Pam“Mr Scruffy, I bow to you. You know me better than I know myself!”

Owl - Mr. Scruffy Icon - Rainbows “I do believe that KC understands that perfectly.”

Owl - Mr. Scruffy Icon - Rainbows “That’s why I think I should take this blog post over. Now, Pam’s reading fans take heed, Pam is busy writing Book Two – DarkShadow. She is very far behind her schedule due to a summer mixed with illness, a lot of research, gardening, and her husband retiring.

She apologized to many of you on her FB author page, but I’m not sure she realizes just how far behind she is.

What’s that you say? Why is she behind?

For one, she didn’t listen to me. For another, while working on a particularly dark section in Act One, she had some issues figuring out how dark to go.

You see, she is a scaredy-cat. Seriously! She jumps in the dark all the time. You see, there is this scene that harkened back to when her Mom was in the hospital (Read her memoir – The Letter – for insights). And, during the early part of the summer, due to some illness, she was going through the process of trying to have an MRI completed of her brain.

To add insult to injury, Pam is severely claustrophobic and couldn’t do the test. She ended up having a CT scan instead. It didn’t show everything as the neurologist would have liked, but Pam got through that test with the help of drugs.

Shhhh. I thought she was not all there without the aid of anything artificial too. As her loving husband said, “At least they found she does have a brain.” (Shades of the Wizard of Oz coming through. I don’t blame you for laughing.) She doesn’t know I’m sharing this information. Why am I sharing? Because it kinda of explains why she’s been slow writing this section of the book.

As her friend, and I hope yours, you will understand. She is about ready to get out of a dark side of the book and move into some interesting twists and turns. She is hoping she’ll be able to write with more speed.

Image of Pam “Mr Scruffy. Are you still talking?”

Owl - Mr. Scruffy Icon - Rainbows “Actually, I’m about done. I was giving your reading fans an update as several had contacted me asking where you were and what you were doing regarding Book Two – DarkShadow.

Image of Pam “Thank you, Mr Scruffy. It does seem like it is taking forever. I’m working on it!”

Owl - Mr. Scruffy Icon - Rainbows “Woot! Woot! I’m sure you are! Seriously, she really is doing just that! Stay tuned!”
